About the Podcast

About the Podcast

abolition is for everybody is a podcast tackling the sometimes-difficult conversations around prison abolition.

Through friendly chats, and conversations with experts, our system-impacted co-hosts discuss the history, futures, obstacles, and joys of abolition. Since June 2021, abolition is for everybody has covered topics ranging from sexual assault to murder, and the school to prison pipeline to disability justice. Our invited guests have included experts in media and law, renowned voices in abolition, as well as system-impacted and even currently incarcerated individuals.

Each season of the podcast covers a single thread of abolitionist exploration. Season One focused on the general framework of abolition, Season Two confronted harm and the abolitionist ways to address and prevent them , and Season Three is taking on media narratives. Our minisodes are occasional, much-shorter, episodes that delve into specific issue areas and help us fill in the blanks, or revisit topics we wish we had more time on.

abolition is for everybody is funded by grants and donations to Initiate Justice, with the goal of educating and empowering people to engage civically with the systems that have the power to end incarceration.
